Stoney Curtis Band - Acid Blues Experience
Newly signed to Mike Varney's Blues Bureau International label, the Stoney Curtis Band pay homage to some great blues artists on this new release.
Last week I played a cut off their live double CD released a year or two ago (studio version is on this new cd). This time around, I'll play you a nice long track, World Without You.
Dokken - Beast From the East
Mr. Scary himself, George Lynch, live!
Errorhead - Error Rhythm
Mr. Errorhead (Marcus Deml) was awarded 3rd place at the Guitar Hero Concert in the Hall of Fame in Cleveland recently.
His new CD sounds fantastic and some of the tracks, like Dead or Alive, are heaps of fun.
G3 - G3 Live in Concert
From the classic 1997 release (can it be a classic in under a decade?), and featuring Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Eric Johnson, here's the Frank Zappa tune,
My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Mama.
HP Crazy - Touch My Soul
HP Crazy's newest CD is full of beautiful, uplifting music. It's got piano and guitars, all played sublimely by HP. Here's Convergence of Two Souls to give you an idea.
Tony Iommi - Fused
Legendary Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi has teamed up with Glenn Hughes to bring you this new CD. Not their first collaboration, but arguably their best.
Hmm, I just reread that last sentence, and it seems to me that the qualifier "arguably" renders it useless. Arguably their best? Hell, if it's arguments you want, then it's arguably their worst, arguably their best, arguably their most subjective.
See, this is what happens when I haven't left the house in days. And besides, no one reads this anyway. I Go Insane is the song, and how true it is.
Nice drumming too, courtesy Kenny Aronoff.
Greg Jones - String Theory
Great melodies, interesting compositions, a hot band... You'll like this one. I'll play the title track, String Theory.
Marc Klock Group - Tentacle Dreams
This is a killer CD! I've played a cut or two off it a few times, and I've just rediscovered it. Here's one I haven't played you before: Mummy Dearest.
Christoph Lindner - Groovin' Bone Guitar
New(ish) release from Christoph. For a jazzy album, this one really rocks. Some of the songs are smooth compared to what I normally play on the show, but there's no denying Christoph's command of his instrument. Here's Stingy.
George Lynch - Furious George
This album was released last year. It's George playing covers of some of his favourite songs from the '70s. Here's one of my favourites: I Want You / She's So Heavy.
Yngwie J. Malmsteen - Concerto Suite for Electric Guitar and Orchestra in E flat minor Op. 1
Way back in the late '90s, Swedish virtuoso Yngwie Malmsteen composed and performed this Concert Suite. Pretentious? Amateurish? Genius? Inspired?
I just love the fact that he did it. Seriously. If he hadn't, then it wouldn't exist, and the world would be a poorer place. Here's a small taste: Cavalino Rampante.
Jay Parmar - Strange Day
Jay's debut solo CD is a revelation! He played all the instruments, wrote all the songs, produced the CD and did all the artwork as well.
Despite being so busy, he somehow managed to create a disc full of inspired music. It's his composition skills as well as his prowess on the guitar that make this CD so listenable.
I hope you enjoy LSD. (The song, not the drug... :)
Alex Skolnick - Subdivisions
Rush is one of my favourite bands. Last year Magna Carta records released a Rush tribute album with a variety of wonderful guitarists playing different Rush songs.
I must admit that I think most of the songs on this CD don't really do justice to the originals, but I really like Alex's playing on this one: Bastille Day.
