Deep Purple Concerto for Group and Orchestra
35th Anniversary

On the 24th of September 1969 Deep Purple and The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra performed Jon Lord's Concerto for Group and Orchestra.

In celebration of the 35th Anniversary of this event, I'll be playing the entire recording. Enjoy!

Check back here over the next few days for updates. I'll keep adding to this list till right before the show.

Jeff Beck - Beck-Ola

Why do we like Jeff so much? Because he plays the guitar so well. This one's from 1969: The Hangman's Knee.

Cream - Goodbye

Eric Clapton was a great player back in these days. He might still be. This one's a classic: Badge.

Deep Purple - Concerto for Group and Orchestra

Here's the complete Concerto as performed by Deep Purple on the 24th of September 1969. Features the classic MkII lineup.

Intro
First Movement: Moderato - Allegro
Second Movement: Andante
Third Movement: Vivace - Presto
Encore: Third Movement: Vivace - Presto (Part)

Michael Fix - Web of Dreams

This is a really lovely acoustic album from Australian guitarist Michael Fix. I'll play you a few tracks: Two Left Feet, Thumb Thing and Web of Dreams.

Brett Garsed - Big Sky

Brett's the most awesome guitarist you're going to hear. Check him out, you won't be disappointed. I'm pretty sure he would have picked up a heap of new fans when played support for Steve Vai recently.

Oh, and did you know he's Australian? Yep, he's local.

Here's a few tracks off his CD from last year: Undoing, Brothers and Breathe.

Hellborg / Lane - Time Is the Enemy

Shawn Lane was an extremely highly regarded guitarist, yet not as widely recognised as he should have been.

Jonas Hellborg is a great bass player, and their collaborations are nothing short of inspirational.

I'll play a couple of cuts off this CD for ya: Time Is the Enemy and The Kings Letter.

Hellborg / Lane / Vinayakrams - Icon

Featuring the same lineup as the Paris DVD, this music is not your typical shred affair. Here's Mirror.

Allan Holdsworth - The Sixteen Men of Tain

Regarded by many to be the "best", Allan was a big influence on guitarists such as Eddie Van Halen, and... others. Hope you enjoy Texas.

Allan Holdsworth Group - Then!

Listen carefully to Atavachron. Allan is good, isn't he?

John 5 - Vertigo

For those of you that know him only through his association with Marilyn Manson, this new solo CD by otherwise under-rated guitarist John 5 will come as a bit of a shock.

How to describe the music? Rockabilly shred, I suppose, is an apt description for some of the tunes on this CD, although it is stylistically diverse and has a great contemporary sound.

Here's a few tracks to give you an idea:
Needles, Dead Man's Dream, Vertigo and Sugar Foot Rag.

Richie Kotzen - Get Up

This is Richie's new CD. Unlike a lot of music I play on the show, this CD is full of short rock songs. You're probably used to hearing more instrumental guitar but I'm sure you'll enjoy this.

A lot of rock guitarists are too lazy to play (well, guitar is finally making a comeback at least), so it's great to hear some songs with decent guitar work!

Here's a few: So Cold, Get Up and Losin My Mind. I might play Still as well if I have time.

Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin II

Another one for the oldies: Heartbreaker.

George Lynch - Furious George

This new release from George Lynch is a great CD! George has always impressed with his fiery playing, and this CD showcases his talents on a bunch of cover songs from the late '60s / early '70s.

Here are some songs I'm sure you know: All Along the Watchtower, Stormbringer and You Shook Me.

Phil Manning - Migrant's Dance

Phil is a legend in Australia, having played in the classic band Chain for many many years.

I'll play you a few songs from his solo CD from last year: Border Towns, Migrant's Dance Pt. 1, Migrant's Dance Pt. 2 and Big Boyfriend.

Riptyde - Sonic Undertow

You've never heard of Riptyde have you? That's ok, neither had I until recently. Chris Hoard plays keys and sticks and bass, and Allan Holdsworth guest solos on most of the tracks.

Here's one I'm sure you'll like, Jurassic City.

Ren Walters - Tip

Another local guitarist, and what an impressive player he is! Here's a couple of great tracks from this CD: Burn and Slice.

Ren Walters - Start

Here's something else from Ren. I hope you enjoy Plug.
