Sunday 16th May 2004 2:00am - 6:00am

Check back here over the next few days for updates. I'll keep adding to this list till right before the show.

Mark Banning - Fret Net Fun
Mark wrote this tune especially for me and the Fret Net listeners! Way to go Mark! I'll be playing Fret Net Fun as my intro.

Black Label Society - Hangover Music
Zakk Wylde is a great rock guitarist. This latest album from his BLS band is incredible. His vocals are gut-wrenchingly emotional, and his guitar work blistering. Here's Won't Find It Here.

Tommy Bolin - Teaser
The late Tommy Bolin is one of my favourite guitarists. Here's Homeward Strut from his solo album Teaser.

Tommy Bolin - Private Eyes
Tommy Bolin was a genius on the guitar. I should probably play a lot more of his music. Here's You Told Me That You Loved Me.

Scott Bradoka - Create Your Own Reality
You might recognise this song, One of Us, written by Eric Bazilian, who plays bass on this version of the song. Guitars are handled by Jeff Golub and Scott Bradoka.

Billy Cobham / Tommy Bolin - Spectrum
Tommy contributed his incomparable skills to this classic jazz fusion album. Quadrant 4 is the track that everyone knows.

Clark Colborn - Clark Plays Guitar
Actually, Clark plays guitar, keys, bass and drums, or at least programs what he doesn't play. The whole CD is great for guitar lovers, but I particularly liked this track, Stainless (With a Touch of Cosmic Power). Oh OK, I liked a few others as well.

Laurent Fleury - Contrastes
A high energy CD, with some beautiful acoustic numbers for respite from the onslaught. Here's one of the more furious numbers, Délicat Bulldozer.

Jimi Hendrix - Blues
Hear My Train Comin' (electric)

Jimi Hendrix - Variations on a Theme: Red House
Red House, recorded at the Albert Hall, London, Feb 24th, 1969.

The Hideous Sun Demons - The Hideous Sun Demons
These guys wail! Comprised of members of David Lee Roth's touring band, these guys let loose away from the confines of a support role and play like the demons they are. Here's Rain.

Michael Lee Hill - Frozen Thought
The human race is truly blessed to have musicians of this calibre living among us. Hmmm, you found that statement a little over the top? Maybe... but hey.. so I get enthusiastic sometimes, what of it? :)
Michael was selected by Steve Vai as the winner of the Ibanez/Steve Vai/Tonos guitar challenge in 2001, for his rendition of Vai's Jibboom.

It's included on this CD, and whilst it is a stand-out track, so are all the rest. Just as George W. Bush was horrified to learn that "half of America's students were below average", you'll be pleased to know that all the tracks on this CD stand out from all the rest.

I'm going to play a few cuts off this CD for you. How about Jibboom, Dorothy's Song, and Jimi's Communication, just for starters.

The Howland / Imboden Project - The Howland / Imboden Project
A collaboration between guitarist Keith Howland and drummer Tris Imboden (both members of the band Chicago), this CD contains wonderfully long instrumentals that feature virtuoso playing and never get repetitive, or dull, or too flashy. Your Old Thingy is a good one, but in fact all the tracks are great.

HLMP - HLMP
This band features two guitarists from the band Chicago; Keith Howland is their current guitarist and Chris Pinnick filled the role in the early 1980s. These instrumental tracks rightly showcase the formidable talents of these two great players. I think I'll play a couple of cuts for you. Here's Tenacious Boogie and Snonga. I'll even play the little hidden bit at the end....

J.A.M. - J.A.M.
This release from Liquid Note Records features works by three different guitarists, each contributing three tracks. I'll play one from each: Joel Rivard's General Relativity Jam, Alessandro Benvenuti's Hot Room and Milan Polak's The Usual Unusual.

If you're a fan of great guitar playing, and let's face it, why else would you be reading this, you will love this CD.

Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti
Soon I'm going to do another show just of legends. People such as Jimmy Page. Here's Custard Pie and Down By the Seaside.

Led Zeppelin - Presence
This is one my favourite albums, but apparently it's not as well known as some of the other Zeppelin stuff. Hope you enjoy For Your Life.

Bill Lonero - Slather
This is going to be a good show! I'm playing a bunch of my favourites, and Bill Lonero is right up there. This is a great CD by a very talented guitar player. Check out the title track, Slather.

Craig 'Macca' McDonald - Music Box
What can I say about this album to give you a sense of my enthusiasm for it? Craig's approach verges on the fanatical; the guy is a perfectionist in everything ranging from his attention to tone to his meticulous crafting of his solos.

All of the tracks on Music Box feature memorable heavy riffs, inspired melodies, inventive soloing, and complex, interesting compositions. Recorded on a low budget in a home studio, Macca plays or programs all the instruments you hear on the album.

It's hard to pick just one track to play, so how about a couple? Here's Modulate and The-Afterlife. If I have time I'll play Machines as well.

Oh and in case you're wondering, it's heavy instrumental, '80s style. Think Satch, Vai, etc...

Keith Miller - Groove Train
Another Fret Net favourite, Keith is an awesome player and this CD is just great. I'll play the title track, Groove Train, this time.

Axel Rudi Pell - Kings and Queens
German melodic guitarist returns with another powerful album. I've chosen Sailing Away as I'm feeling nostalgic and it reminds me of music I used to listen to ages ago. Axel scorches on the guitar!

Matthew Phillips - Never Far From Mind
A rather nice progressive concept album, I guess you'd call it. I'll play you the title track, Never Far From Mind. Matthew's playing is stellar, and the compositions are delightful. The keys on some of the tracks are lovely too.

Plankton - Plankton
A great retro-blues band from Sweden, featuring two guitarists: Christian Neppenström and Emil Fredholm. I've played a fair bit of their stuff over the last few months, and soon I hope to have a copy of their new CD to play for you.

In the meantime, here's another track from their debut album. This time I'll play their version of the classic Dave Brubeck jazz tune Take Five.

Proto-Kaw - Before Came After
This is Kansas Mk II, the Kansas lineup before the Kansas that became famous, reformed after 30 years! More like a fine wine which improves with age, rather than a piece of cheese which doesn't, this band sounds better than ever. Most of the tracks are penned by guitarist Kerry Livgren and have a distinctive 'epic' feel to them. Here's the opener, Alt. More Worlds Than Known.

Rush - Rush
Alex Lifeson is another of my favourite guitar players. This album is Rush's first, released before most of you were born! Here Again is a great track.

Rush - All The World's a Stage
"We'd like to do for you side one from our latest album. This is called 2112". - Geddy Lee

Ken Snyder - One
One of the Fret Net favourites, this CD just gets better and better the more I listen to it. Ken's a great player and I'm sure you'll enjoy Electric.

Sun Caged - The Spirit Lives On
Great album of Hendrix covers by some of the world's best guitarists. This one, Freedom, features Marcel Coenen on guitar.

Bryon Thompson - Get On With It
A bit of a chill out CD compared to most of the other stuff I play on the show, Bryon's Get On With It is one for the whole family! I particularly like One Thing More.

Steve Vai - Flex-Able Leftovers
Mr. Vai is touring Australia in a couple of months. I'll put a proper announcement up next week. This is an unusual CD that I think maybe some of you probably aren't too familiar with. Most of this material dates back to the early 1980s. Here's The X-Equalibrium Dance.
