Steve Morse Interview!

I spoke with Steve Morse for just over an hour on Saturday, 24th April! He's regarded as one of the best (if not the best) guitarists ever.

I'll be playing the interview and a ton of his music on this show. I'll be playing selections from the Dixie Dregs, the Steve Morse Band, Deep Purple, Living Loud, and whatever else of his I can get my hands on.

Check back here over the next few days for updates. I'll keep adding to this list till right before the show.

Johnny A. - Get Inside
Smooth and tasty, Johnny A.'s guitar playing is evocative and sublime, exemplary and trans-cerebralicious (Oooh I made up a new word). Actually, ignore all that... All you need to know is that this is just plain old great guitar playing.

Krea Gata means Cold Cat, or in a different dialect could mean Meat Cat.

Mark Banning - Fret Net Fun
Mark wrote this tune especially for me and the Fret Net listeners! Way to go Mark! I'll be playing Fret Net Fun as my intro.

Chris Brooks - The Master Plan
Chris, a Sydney-sider, has more chops than a Greek butcher (oh ha ha ha). Not only can he play like a mad man, he is a great composer of progressive guitar instrumentals. Fans of traditional prog rock will love this. Check out Tales From a Distant Sky to see what I mean.

Giacomo Castellano - Cutting Bridges
This is very slick CD... Great production, great songs, a singer(!), and of course that old Fret Net staple, great guitar playing!

Giacomo is a very talented player, and one of Italy's premier fusion guitarists. Check out Ariete.

Mattias IA Eklundh - Freak Guitar
This CD is one of the most interesting I've heard in a long time. Consisting mostly of instrumentals, there is not much in the way of recognisable structure, or sound, to many of the tracks.

What is present in abundance though, is absolute guitar wizardry. I'm sure you'll love God - The Mechanic. Oh, and Mattias paid me a couple of million dollars to air When Sam Played It Again....

Michael Lee Hill - Frozen Thought
The human race is truly blessed to have musicians of this calibre living among us. Hmmm, you found that statement a little over the top? Maybe... but hey.. so I get enthusiastic sometimes, what of it? :)
Michael was selected by Steve Vai as the winner of the Ibanez/Steve Vai/Tonos guitar challenge in 2001, for his rendition of Vai's Jibboom.

It's included on this CD, and whilst it is a stand-out track, so are all the rest. Just as George W. Bush was horrified to learn that "half of America's students were below average", you'll be pleased to know that all the tracks on this CD stand out from all the rest.

I'm going to play a few cuts off this CD for you. How about Jibboom, Dorothy's Song, and Jimi's Communication, just for starters.

Allan Holdsworth - All Night Wrong
Allan is regarded by many to be the greatest guitar player in the known universe. I'll not argue against that.

This CD was recorded live in Japan. I hope beyond all reasonable doubt that the CD title isn't a cheap attempt at humour.

Despite my reservations about the CD title, I'll play a track for you. Here's Gas Lamp Blues.

Vernon Reid & Masque - Known Unknown
Proving once again that he's one of the most innovative guitarists of all time, Vernon Reid's new project once again defies description. Oh, unless of course someone describes it.

How about... Jazzteroids? Yep, Jazz on steroids, from outer space! Good description.

Here's The Slouch. I'll play many many more tracks off this CD over the next few shows.

Jason Stolarik - Flesh Confessions
With music ranging from vocal-type contemporary songs, to impressive guitar instrumentals, it's well worth a listen. Here's Beantown.

Ben Trexel - Under the Radar
The playing on this CD is accomplished, although you'll probably find yourself thinking that you've heard most of it before. That's OK, as he borrows from the best. You'll pick up references to Jimmy Page, Dave Gilmour, and others. The acoustic tracks are probably better, so here's one that combines acoustic and electric: Sahara.

Urban Blue - It's Different Today
More than just guitars; horns and keys too! Check out this live blues track, Redheaded Lady.
